That was me; sorry; I forgot to hit "REPLY TO ALL".

But you're right; even if I do "REPLY TO ALL", I have to trim out the individual poster's name, else they get 2 copies. Which is why you see people on mailing lists with a .sig that says "Don't CC: on list posts, please".

If it's possuble to do what you suggest, why make more work for the poster?  In my experience, at least 90-95% of the time, you want your response to go to the list only; it's more rare to want to go to original poster only. Why not make the dfeault go with the odds?
