There are pros and cons that have been argued at length.

I lean toward what Mailman itself recommends.  A few years ago I reviewed
the FAQs that Bill Jonas mentioned.  They convinced me that the issue
is very subtle and complex.  So again I prefer to err on the side of
the recommendation of the software that I am using (Mailman).  If you can
convince them to change their recommentation (or delineate cases where one
approach would be preferred to the other), then you will have succeeded in
changing my mind too.

Besides does anyone know why Potato's version of Mailman keeps nixing
the web interface so that the only part that works is approvals?  At this
point I can't change anything in Mailman ... again :(
