I *very* rarely use a --force- option. The exception is when a
dist-upgrade is failing due to incorrect packaging in related packages
that think they both own a particular file. Two KDE packages want the
same file, I'll use --force-overwrite. Normally, you don't need to
force anything, but with two packages that are intended to be installed
at the same time (that, and they're not marked as conflicting), it's
clearly a bug in the package(s) and a little nudging is required.
